#What is Education?
Friday, February 12, 2010 @ 7:00 AM

Hi everyone, today i guess i shall be touching on the topic of education. Well, today in LA class, we were asked by our teacher whether education should be confined to the classroom. Well, I believe that many of you, if you think of the word education, the picture of your school suddenly appears in your head. Then, you shall slowly progress to seeing yourself sitting in your classroom, looking at the teacher holding a marker pen, scribbling profound sentences on the board. You slowly doze off, only to realise, "Hey! Will all this gibberish be tested?" Your fears are suddenly realised, when your friend puts up his hand and asked the same question. Your teacher gives you that dumb stare and says: " Of course, WHY ELSE WOULD I BE TEACHING IT!

Okay, this is the topic which I shall be discussing on. I shall promise that it shall be no lengthy educational journal of some sort. But really, I really detest it when the teacher makes this obnoxious statement. If i had the opportunity, I would just stand up, walk out of the class and say," Why would I learn what I am supposed to learn when learning is confined to the syllabus?" Of course, this is just a figment of my imagination, and if i would really make that daring statement, i guess i would be out of the school in the blink of an eye.

Personally, I have this intense, ardent and fervent hatred for textbooks. I feel that education should not be confined to what we are supposed to learn. In fact, I don't even like the fact that education takes place in the Classroom! I have read about educators who have their lessons in the nature, or beside the sea. Because this demolishes the rigid wall of "Learning Boundary" that stand before us in class. Wouldn't it be great if we were able to learn out of the syllabus, wouldn't it be better if we did not have to look at the annual Scheme of work that shows us what we are going to learn? I feel that education in the classroom restricts our learning ability. We are actually surrounded by this invisible policeman cordoning us from venturing into the uncharted waters of Excessive Learning? LEARNING CAN NEVER BE EXCESSIVE! (only food can.) Thus, I would like to point out to the readers of this post to adhere to the policy of Stop, Look and Listen.
Stop- Stop your fast paced life. Take a breather, a simple walk in the park. You may have neglected the simplest things around you. These things may be learning points by all means.

Look-To look around you and you will actually realise that learning can take place anywhere. The simplest of things may enlighten you, and the most complicated things around you may just bring you to a new perspective of things.

Listen- Listen to what people say. Listen to the way they speak, and the way there phrase things. Listen to the surroundings around you. Are they a plausible learning chapter for you?

i'm like the ringleader,

i call the shots.

i chose to fight,

i command respect -

-when I put on a show.
